Summary
Braided rivers are generally recognised as supporting a distinctive flora, but there has been little work to date assessing the composition and significance of riverbed plant communities at a regional scale.
In particular, the species composition and distribution of riverbed plant communities of the upper Waitaki River is poorly documented.
This study describes the plant communities of crown-administered braided river systems in the upper Waitaki River and some of the factors influencing their distribution.
