Summary
The Abel Tasman National Park Management Plan is a statutory document that implements the Nelson/Marlborough Conservation Management Strategy and provides for the management of Abel Tasman National Park in accordance with the National Parks Act 1980 and the General Policy for National Parks 2005.
The purpose of the management plan is to preserve Abel Tasman National Park in perpetuity for its intrinsic worth and for the benefit, use and enjoyment of the public. The plan seeks to give guidance and clear directions for management of the park by the Department of Conservation. It focuses on 'outcome at place' with detailed descriptions and management outcomes for three specific 'places' within the park: the Coast; the Interior; and the Islands.
This plan will be effective for up to 10 years from the date of approval, but a review may occur at any time due to increased knowledge or changes in circumstances.
