The Auckland CMS is in three volumes:
- Volume I: Overview and Strategic Objectives
- Volume II: Maps of Auckland Conservancy
- Volume III: Land Inventory
The publication is available for viewing at DOC offices in Auckland, Warkworth, North Head (Devonport) and Great Barrier Island. It is also held at a number of Auckland libraries e.g. Auckland City, Manukau City, North Shore City, Waitakere Central and Franklin.

The Auckland CMS was approved by the New Zealand Conservation Authority in June 1995. The Conservation Act requires CMSs to be reviewed every 10 years. The Auckland CMS has been given an extension until 30 June 2010 to allow for a review to be completed.
Review of the Auckland CMS
Auckland Conservancy has begun to review the Auckland CMS. The review process will involve informal discussion and feedback, followed by statutory consultation.
Summary

Whangapoua Beach, Great Barrier Island
This is Volume 1 of the Conservation Management Strategy for the Auckland Conservancy of the Department of Conservation.
It has been prepared in accordance with Part IIIA of the Conservation Act 1987).
The Conservation Management Strategy provides a strategy for the integrated management of all lands and marine areas administered by the Department of Conservation in the Auckland Conservancy.
It also indicates policies which will guide the Department when carrying out other statutory responsibilities, when advocating conservation, in developing relationships with tangata whenua, and in working with other statutory agencies, with community and user groups and members of the public.
It sets long term management directions desired for the Conservancy (over the next 10-25 years), and provides a framework for day to day conservation management by Conservancy staff, volunteers, associates and friends.
