This management plan has been prepared in accordance with Section 40B of the Reserves Act 1977 (the Act). This statutory document implements the Nelson/ Marlborough Conservation Management Strategy and provides for the management of Te Waikoropupū Springs and Pupū Springs Scenic Reserve (Te Waikoropupū) in accordance with the Act and Conservation General Policy 2005.

Under the Reserves Act 1977, and the requirements of Section 4 of the Conservation Act 1987, the Department of Conservation is responsible for the administration and management of the reserve, in consultation with Manawhenua ki Mohua. In accordance with Treaty principles, and to the extent provided for by current legislation, this management plan recognises Manawhenua ki Mohua.

Manawhenua ki Mohua is the umbrella entity for three iwi who hold manawhenua/customary authority within Mohua/Golden Bay, namely Ngāti Tama, Ngāti Rārua and Te Ātiawa.

This management plan has been through an extensive consultation process and reflects the views of tangata whenua, the community and other key stakeholders and interested parties.

The plan will be effective for 10 years from the date of approval (6 April 2009) but may be reviewed at any time as a result of changes in circumstance.
