The track begins only a few minutes walk beyond the carpark from Catchpool Valley at the top of the Butcher Track and climbs steeply north along Cattle Ridge. There are outstanding views of the Rimutaka Range and Orongorongo Valley all along the open parts of Cattle Ridge. Cattle Ridge Track continues to join the Orongorongo Track near Turere Stream which can be followed for 1.5 hours back to the carpark.

Getting there

Take the Coast Road to Catchpool Valley, 12 km south of Wainuiomata in the Hutt Valley and follow Butcher Track to Cattle Ridge Track.

Plan and prepare

The Catchpool Valley park gates close at 6pm (8pm during daylight saving) and reopen at 8.00 am.
