This quiet reserve is located only 3 km south of New Plymouth on SH 3.

Picnic beside the Waiwhakaiho River and choose from two easy short walks suitable for all the family. Both walks can be accessed from the carpark.

Meeting of the Waters Walk

Time: 20 min

The Meeting of the Waters Walk is a 20 minute stroll through twa, kahikatea, matai and large totara trees.

Araheke Bush walk

Time: 45 min

The walk takes about 40 minutes crossing the Waiwhakaiho River on the new suspension bridge. Wheelchair access is via the New Plymouth District Council bridge and a key is required. Contact the DOC Taranaki Area Office.

What to expect on a short walk:

  • Track is well formed, with an even surface. There may be steps or slopes
