Description

Omaru Falls

Cross the stile and walk across the farm track for a few hundred metres. There is another stile to cross before the walking track enters bush filled with ferns and young rimu.

The track follows a stream before crossing a swing bridge and back onto farmland. Follow the grassy track and orange markers.

There is an ideal picnic spot next to the river and a small terraced waterfall. Continue up the grassy track to the falls lookout. The falls drop about 45 m and are most impressive after times of heavy rain.

Getting there

12 km south of Te Kuiti, turn left at the Taumaranui/National Park turnoff on to SH4. Omaru Rd and the Omaru Falls turnoff is 19 km on the right hand side and is clearly signposted. A car park and the track entrance is about 500 m down Omaru Rd.

Plan and prepare

Before you go into the outdoors, tell someone your plans and leave a date to raise the alarm if you haven't returned. To do this, use the New Zealand Outdoors Intentions process on the AdventureSmart website. It is endorsed by New Zealand's search and rescue agencies and provides three simple options to tell someone you trust the details about your trip.
