Te Tapui Loop Track

Track category

Tramping track

Time:

2 hr 30 min return

Description

Access to the track is off Piakonui Rd.

From the car park, the track leads a short distance into the bush before splitting in two directions. The track to the left is shorter but does involve a steady climb to the summit and lookout tower, compared to the track to the right which is more gentle but quite a bit longer. A clockwise route is recommend i.e., take the steeper option up and the easier option down.

There are great views across to the Kaimai Ranges and Firth of Thames.

Getting there

Piakonui Rd is at Richmond Downs between Cambridge and Matamata, south east of Hamilton.

Before you go into the outdoors, tell someone your plans and leave a date to raise the alarm if you haven't returned. To do this, use the New Zealand Outdoors Intentions process on the AdventureSmart website. It is endorsed by New Zealand's search and rescue agencies and provides three simple options to tell someone you trust the details about your trip.
