Kauri rickers

The track from the Parker Rd car park starts with a long flight of stairs then levels out to traverse a largely open face with views to the north. Walk on past an old pa site (hidden by vegetation) through regenerating native bush to a large kauri tree.

The kauri on the ground fell in 2009. A few minutes further on the track passes through a grove of young kauri (rickers) to a viewpoint over a bush-clad valley. Return the way you came or to complete the full loop (3 km), climb up through stands of large rimu to the top viewing point (275 m above seal level) where there are spectacular views to the north and west.

You can also walk for another 20 mins along the Hakarimata Walkway to the southern lookout with views across to Hamilton city.

The track descends from the top viewpoint, through an attractive grove of nikau palms to the lower viewpoint and car park.
