Hakarimata Summit track

Track category

Walking track

Time:

2 hr return

Description

Follow the Waterworks Track to just before the dam where the track branches off to the right and climbs steeply up to meet the Hakarimata Walkway. The steps look foreboding, but the view at the top is well worth the effort. From the walkway junction, it is 5 mins along a side track to the summit (374 m). A new viewing tower provides 360o views of the surrounding countryside.

Before you go into the outdoors, tell someone your plans and leave a date to raise the alarm if you haven't returned. To do this, use the New Zealand Outdoors Intentions process on the AdventureSmart website. It is endorsed by New Zealand's search and rescue agencies and provides three simple options to tell someone you trust the details about your trip.
