Hakarimata Scenic Reserve

The Hakarimata Scenic Reserve near Ngaruawahia is a great place to see kauri, especially the large kauri on the Kauri Loop Track.

Description

This walk leaves from Brownlee Avenue and passes through attractive bush alongside Mangarata Stream on the way to an old dam. This 750,000 litre reservoir, built in 1922, was once the water supply for Ngaruawahia. The track to the dam is on an all-weather metalled track. Beyond the dam, the track changes to a tramping track and is very steep and slippery in wet weather.
