Getting there

Piakonui Rd, in the Te Tapui Scenic Reserve, south east of Hamilton.

Description

Access to the track is off Piakonui Rd. There are a couple of small, unbridged streams to cross near the start, then it's a fairly easy but steady climb through bush to the summit and lookout tower. Views across to the Kaimai Ranges and Firth of Thames.

Challenging day or multi-day tramping/hiking
Track is mostly unformed with steep, rough or muddy sections
Suitable for people with good fitness. Moderate to high level backcountry skills and experience, including navigation and survival skills required
Track has markers, poles or rock cairns. Expect unbridged stream and river crossings
Tramping/hiking boots required
