About the area
The Queenstown area has some of New Zealand’s most spectacular scenery and natural features. The region also has a rich history of both gold mining and settlement. Several walks follow goldfield trails that enable you to explore and enjoy the outstanding scenery at the same time.
Description
The Frankton Walkway provides a pleasant stroll along the lakeshore between Queenstown and Frankton. Spectacular views of the Remarkables Range, Cecil Peak and Kelvin Peninsula are gained from vantage points on this track. The walkway is ideal as an easy bike ride for the family. It is well used by both walkers and bikers, so please keep to the left and bikers use your bell or call when passing.

What to expect on a walking track:
- Easy to moderate walking from a few minutes to a day
- Track is mostly well formed, some sections may be steep, rough or muddy
- Suitable for people with low to moderate fitness and abilities
- Clearly sign posted. Stream and river crossings are bridged
- Walking shoes or light tramping/hiking boots required
