Trampers, Cascade Saddle

Otago region

Map showing Otago region.

The Cascade Saddle is situated in South Island's Otago region, between the West Matukituki and the Dart Valleys.  he Cascade Saddle Route is a popular alpine pass trip during the summer months for suitably experienced trampers.

The Route links the Matukituki Valley Track with the Rees-Dart Track and it takes 1 - 2 days to complete the crossing.

The Route does not cross the Cascade Saddle itself, which is impassable from the Matukituki side; however, the track does pass within a short distance of it on the Dart side.

This track is one of many visitor opportunities provided in the Te Wahipounamu - South West New Zealand World Heritage Area.
