Description

Mt Alfred Track. Photo: Eiji Kitai.
View from Mt Alfred

A pleasant day can be spent walking up this mountain. The approach is on the Western (Dart) side of the peak - look for a carpark on the right hand side of the road. A good zigzag track climbs three quarters of the way. After this, a marked route can be followed as far as the bushline. Above the bushline this track is steep and exposed. This track is not recommended for young children.

Note: Permission is required from Earnslaw Station for accessing the upper part of Mt Alfred - once you leave the bushline. Please minimise disturbance to stock.

Getting there

Access to this track is from a car park off the Glenorchy-Routeburn Road, 20 minutes from Glenorchy.
