Beginning at the end of Te Wahapu Road (10 minutes from Russell), Toretore Island is accessible across a shingle bank at mid-to-low tide only.

Plan and prepare

The island can only be accessed at mid-to-low tide. Be sure to check the tides before you leave to plan your return trip.

Bring plenty of food, water and warm clothing for your walk.

No dogs due to risks to wildlife.
