Tide timetables

You need to consult a tide timetable when planning your trip.

Awaroa Inlet crossing

Awaroa Inlet on the Abel Tasman Coast Track can only be crossed within 1 hour 30 minutes before and 2 hours after low tide. It is dangerous to cross outside of these times.

Awaroa Inlet tidal crossing times:

  • Bark Bay to Awaroa hut and campsite: 4 hours
  • Awaroa Crossing: 25 minutes
  • Northern side of Awaroa crossing to Totaranui: 1 hour 35 minutes.

Other estuary crossings

A bridge and boardwalk at Onetahuti estuary (opened November 2013) provides an all tide crossing.

The estuaries at Torrent and Bark Bay have all-tide tracks around them. If you use the all-tide track at Torrent Bay, add an extra 1 hour 25 minutes, and at Bark Bay add 15 minutes.
