Mountain biking is not permitted on the Heaphy Track.

Hunting is not allowed within one kilometre either side of the Heaphy Track from the third Monday in December to after Waitangi Day (or weekend if it falls on a weekend).

The remaining area of Kahurangi National Park, hunting is by permit only. For hunting permits on the eastern side of the Heaphy Track, contact the Nelson Regional Visitor Centre or DOC Golden Bay. For permits on the western side of the Heaphy Track, contact DOC Westport.

Domestic animals

To protect ground-dwelling birds, no domestic animals are permitted in Kahurangi National Park.

Dogs

In general, dogs are not allowed in national parks. Only seeing-eye dogs and dogs working with Search and Rescue are allowed on the Heaphy Track.

No horses

Horses are not allowed on the track.
