Mountain-biking

Mountain-biking is not permitted on the Heaphy Track.

Hunting

No hunting is allowed within one kilometre either side of the Heaphy Track from the third Monday in December to after Waitangi Day (or weekend if it falls on a weekend). Actual dates will be advertised in local newspapers.

At other times and in the remaining area of Kahurangi National Park, hunting is by permit only. For hunting permits on the eastern side of the Heaphy Track, contact Nelson Regional Visitor Centre or DOC Golden Bay. For permits on the western side of the Heaphy Track, contact DOC Westport.
