Gray's Bush Scenic Reserve is located on the north-eastern side of the Gisborne Plains beside the Back Ormond Road. It is 9.5 kilometres from Gisborne.
There is a car park adjacent to the reserve. The reserve is signposted from Back Ormond Road.
About the area
Less than 10 km from Gisborne, Gray's Bush features a small but important remnant of the kahikatea (podocarp) forest which once covered much of the Gisborne Plains. There are a number of walking tracks at the reserve.
Description

Grays Bush Scenic Reserve
There are a number of tracks within the bush which can be accessed from the car park. They form a number of intersecting loops in the southern part of the reserve. The reserve is on flat land and a full circuit of the tracks in Gray's Bush takes 40-60 minutes at a leisurely pace. The tracks are suitable for all age groups and levels of fitness.
Plan and prepare
Please don't take any plants from the reserve or leave any rubbish. Dogs are not allowed in the reserve.
What to expect on a short walk:
- Easy walking for up to an hour
- Track is well formed, with an even surface. There may be steps or slopes
- Suitable for people of most abilities and fitness
- Stream and rivers crossings are bridged
- Walking shoes required
