Description

Wentworth Falls
Upgraded in November 2009, this easy walking track takes you from the campground to Wentworth Falls. The track follows an easy grade alongside the Wentworth River, with two bridged crossings, before climbing to a good view of the falls. The falls are in two drops of about 20 metres each. Continue along a steeper section of the track to a basin at the top of the falls.
Access is also possible across the main range to Maratoto Road (5 hours) but this is recommended for experienced trampers only.
An alternative short walk starts at the concrete ford at the end of Wentworth Valley Road and passes through regenerating forest beside the river. There are two mine shafts visible from the track before it drops down to the the stream opposite the picnic area (30 min). Carefully assess before wading the stream.
Getting there
Wentworth Valley is 7 km south of Whangamata on the Coromandel Peninsula, the track leaves from the campground.
Plan and prepare
Before you go into the outdoors, tell someone your plans and leave a date to raise the alarm if you haven't returned. To do this, use the New Zealand Outdoors Intentions process on the AdventureSmart website. It is endorsed by New Zealand's search and rescue agencies and provides three simple options to tell someone you trust the details about your trip.
