Kaituna Kayak Trail

Track category

Short walk

Time:

45 min

Description

The trail begins by the car park and travels in a straight line before veering right and along the back of the reserve. The trail passes through the club pond and then emerges back on the straight, about 500 m from the car park.

The trail includes a number of portages which require users to lift their kayaks out of the water and over a narrow walking track (2-3 m) before joining adjacent waterways.

The rest of the trail is at an easy standard, following channels and ponds within the shallow wetlands with no current or any major obstacles. Birdlife and aquatic plants are seen from a new perspective whilst paddling in the reserve.

A walking track accompanies the kayak trail for most of its length. Directional signage is found along the trail and further information about the wetland is available on a series of information signs.

Getting there

The Kaituna Kayak Trail is located within the Kaituna wetlands near Te Puke in the Bay of Plenty. Access to the trail is from the car park on Pah Rd, off SH29 about 5 min east of Te Puke.
