Description
This walk showcases excellent examples of large canopy trees, understory, ground plants, lichens, ferns, orchids and epiphytes. The Kaimai lookout over the Waikato plains is two hundred metres down the road.

Leaving the summit car park, follow the North South Track for about 10min until reaching a track junction. Take the loop walk whcih follows a short ridge before dropping back down to meet up with the road 50m below the carpark.
Getting there
This track is located at the Kaimai Summit on SH 29. The unsigned gravel carpark is on the Northern side of the road, opposite the fresh water spring.
Plan and prepare
Please consult a topographic map.
You need to be well prepared when tramping on conservation land, especially on the longer day walks. Ensure you have strong, comfortable boots, warm clothing, a good raincoat, first aid kit, food and drink, a hat and sunscreen. It is also advisable that you leave your tramping intentions with a responsible person, in case you get lost.
