Getting there
The carpark and sign-posted track entrance is 1 km down Omaha Valley Road (off Leigh Rd), Matakana (just before #109).
Description

Funghi at Mt Tamahunga
Time: to the summit - 1 hr 30 min one way; to Rodney Rd - 3hr 30 min one way
Distance: to the summit - 1.5 km one way; to Rodney Rd - 6.5 km one way
The walkway initially climbs over farm paddocks to the bush line (please follow markers and use stiles to cross fences). Once in the bush, follow orange markers up the ridge to the summit and a concrete helicopter pad. A rock lookout near the summit (437 m) provides a spectacular view of Omaha.
From here you can retrace your steps or continue northwards to the Rodney Rd exit.
On leaving the bush, follow white markers up and down a steep route following a farm fence line until you exit onto a farm track, which joins with the end of Rodney Rd. Enjoy magnificent views up and down the coast.
You can also continue the walk from Rodney Rd, 3 km across private farmland to the end of Bathgate Road, Pakiri. Follow the white markers, please stick to the route and use the stiles to cross fences.

What to expect on a tramping track:
- Challenging day or multi-day tramping/hiking
- Track is mostly unformed with steep, rough or muddy sections
- Suitable for people with good fitness. Moderate to high level backcountry skills and experience, including navigation and survival skills required
- Track has markers, poles or rock cairns. Expect unbridged stream and river crossings
- Tramping/hiking boots required
