Mokoroa Falls Track

Alert/Important notice

Upgrade works have begun on the Constable Road end of the Goldie Bush Walkway.


Construction works will be underway between the Constable Road end and the Mokoroa Stream crossing from 29 October 2009 to 28 February 2010. Between 29 October and 18 December 2009 there will be no major disruption to track users, although users can expect some delays and should follow all safety signage.

Works will break for the Christmas period and then continue from 11 January to 28 February 2010. For visitor safety, during this period the Constable Road end of the walkway will be closed to all users. Visitors wishing to use the Goldies Bush Walkway will need to access it from the Horseman Road end instead.

Getting there

The Mokoroa Falls Track comes off the Goldie Bush Walkway, when started from Horseman Rd.

Description

To walk to Mokoroa Falls from Horseman Rd follow the Goldie Bush Walkway for 5 minutes, then turn right onto the Mokoroa Falls track, which descends down a ridge to the lookout platform.

Plan and prepare

Dogs are not permitted on the tracks because of the threat they pose to stock and wildlife. Exceptions include certified guide dogs and permitted hunting dogs.

What to expect on a walking track:

  • Easy to moderate walking from a few minutes to a day
  • Track is mostly well formed, some sections may be steep, rough or muddy
  • Suitable for people with low to moderate fitness and abilities
  • Clearly sign posted. Stream and river crossings are bridged
  • Walking shoes or light tramping/hiking boots required
