Dogs are not permitted on most land managed by DOC in the Auckland region, including all island conservation reserves (and their foreshores) of the Hauraki Gulf.

Other important wildlife areas
Dogs are not allowed on foreshore areas in the Waitemata, Manukau and Kaipara harbours, including:
- Te Matuku Bay on Waiheke Island
- Pollen Island in the Waitemata Harbour
- Clifton Marginal Strip and Waikopoua Creek near Whitford
- Miranda in the Firth of Thames
- Omaha
- Okura Estuary
- Tahwaranui
- Cape Rodney-Okakari Point (known as Goat Island) Marine Reserve
- Pakiri Marginal Strip
If you are unsure contact your local council or DOC Office before taking your dog for a walk somewhere new.
Exemptions are in place for police dogs, dogs used in DOC management, and guide or companion dogs (certified as helpers of people with disabilities).
