Rakiura National Park track & weather update

During wet conditions care is required on boardwalks and in low lying areas that are prone to flooding.
Rakiura Great Walk hut and campsite bookings can be made online or by visiting the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre.
A fire permit is required if you wish to have a open fire within Rakiura National Park.
Day walks
You should be well equipped and prepared for all conditions even on day walks.
Ulva Island
Toxin (brodifacoum) was laid on the 20 September 2011 to eradicate rats. Until further notice:

DO NOT touch bait.

Watch children at all times.

Do not eat fish or shellfish caught within 100 m of the Ulva Island coastline.
- Please check at the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre if you have any concerns.
Rakiura Great Walk Track
- Track upgrade being carried out between North Arm hut and Kaipipi bay, please check at the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre for the latest information prior to your departure.
- Track is muddy and slippery between North Arm hut and Sawdust bay, sturdy footwear is recommended and caution is required.
- All huts and campsites on the Rakiura Great Walk track require booking prior to your departure.
- A new campsite above North Arm hut is open for use.
- Hut warden present on track.
Backcountry tracks
Northwest Circuit and Southern Circuit
- During heavy rain flooding is likely in low lying areas. Caution is required especially from Mason Bay to North Arm Hut.
- North Arm and Port William huts, and the Great Walk campsites require booking prior to your departure.
- Whale carcasses are present on Mason Bay beach, do not touch carcasses and avoid swimming in the area.
- Hut warden present on track.
