Gillespie Pass Track

  • Patches of snow present on Siberia side of Gillespie Pass - care required
  • Unstable slip in the Young Valley - caution required.
  • A dam that formed in the North Branch of Young Valley in 2007 still poses a potential risk to trampers. The valley should be avoided during periods of heavy rain.
  • High river track available from Blue Pools carpark to Young Valley river mouth.

Rees/Dart Track

  • 25 Mile Hut (OTMC) is suitable only for emergency accommodation, due to its derelict condition.
  • Whitbourn Track - bridge crossing the Dart River to this track has been destroyed, as well as slip damage on the track itself.

Other facilities and services

  • Prohibited Rural Fire Season - no open fires permitted. BBQs in properly constructed containers fuelled by gas or electricity permitted.
  • Hut water supply: due to prologned dry conditions in Mt Aspiring National Park, some hut water tanks are currently empty - water collection is required from nearby streams and rivers.
  • Aspiring Hut: Hut warden, radio and gas cooking facilities available.
  • Queenstown Regional Visitor Centre: 8.30am - 6.00pm 7 days.
  • Mt Aspiring National Park Visitor Centre: 8am - 5pm 7 days.
  • Makarora Visitor Centre: 8am - 5pm 7 days, closed 12-1pm daily.
