Reefton area is surrounded by Victoria Conservation Park, New Zealand's largest at around 200,000 ha, named after the Victoria Ranges that run almost its entire length.
Reefton is a quintessentially kiwi town, with a heritage character that alludes to its colonial past. As a crossroads between Murchison, Springs Junction, Westport and Greymouth, the town acts as a gateway to the West Coast. It sits in a wide open valley with the lovely Inangahua River flowing past the edge of town.
West Coast rain regularly comes in a deluge but there can be long fine periods at other times. Reefton is known for long, fine spells during the summer months. It has much less rainfall and is on average much warmer than Greymouth, Westport or Hokitika.
Location
Reefton can be accessed from Christchurch via Springs Junction or from Nelson via Murchison. The West Coast towns of Westport and Greymouth are both within an hour's drive.
