Rocky islet, Three Steeples, Cape Foulwind
Cape Foulwind is a popular place to spend time enjoying the sea air, exploring the coastline and visiting the main attraction, a rookery of kekeno - the New Zealand fur seal. A close but safe view allows you to watch the seals swimming amongst the rocks, dozing in the sun and feeding their young.
Learn about the history of the area and why fur seals have chosen Cape Foulwind as a breeding site.
You can take the Seal Colony Walk to viewing platforms that overlook the seal colony. This walk can accommodate wheelchairs.
There are no DOC places to stay at Cape Foulwind and Tauranga Bay.
Find out how to get there and what safety precautions to take. Don't disturb the native vegetation and wildlife.
