You can camp in either secluded bush or open settings at the road-end. Payment is by self-registration. Fires must be lit only in fireplaces provided.

Backcountry hut tickets must be purchased in advance to stay in park huts.

Tramps to Cone Hut and Totara Flats Hut are popular.
