There are a number of DOC campsites and many DOC huts throughout Tararua Forest Park. These are listed below.

Other places to stay

Kaitoke Regional Park 

Near the end of Waterworks Road, near the southern edge of Tararua Forest Park. Managed by Greater Wellington Regional Council, it has a resident ranger, campground, shelter, swimming holes, picnic areas and interpretation kiosk. At Pakuratahi Forks, 3 km from SH2, there are more picnic areas, swimming holes and the setting for the filming of Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
