Tracks and walks

There are a series of short bush walks within towering native forest containing rimu, kahikatea miro, and rata.

Tracks ranging from the easy to the extremely difficult lead into a network of routes through the Tararua Forest Park.

Powell Hut – Mount Holdsworth

This tramp follows the Mount Holdsworth Track to Powell Hut. From the rocky outcrop below the hut you get a view of High Ridge and Totara Flats far below.

Permits are required for shooting in the Tararua Forest Park. Red deer, wild goats and pigs provide for many recreational hunting opportunities.

Local rivers contain brown trout.

Swimming at Atiwhakatu Stream is popular over the summer.
