Stakeholders and budget
Mana Island Scientific Reserve is managed by the Department of Conservation, and there are two resident staff.
Mana and Wellington branches of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society undertook fund raising and provided labour for the early tree plantings and mouse eradication, with the latter also providing funding for lizard surveys and monitoring. Since its formation in 1999, the Friends of Mana Island Society has raised over $140,000 and coordinated and provided thousands of person-days of labour, focused on planting, weed control, seabird restoration, nest box installation and bird monitoring.

Mana Island
Local Maori iwi Ngati Toa have mana whenua over the island, and are represented on the FOMI committee. Many other groups and individuals have contributed time, labour, materials and expertise to the project. These have included the Ornithological Society of New Zealand (Wellington Branch), the Wellington Branch of the Botanical Society, tramping clubs, and local schools and businesses.
