Activities at Waiohine Gorge
Tracks and walks
Several tramps begin at the suspension bridge, including the popular tracks to Totara Flats and Cone Hut.
Other activities
Picnics
There is a picnic area and shelter at the entrance to the park and another picnic area at the road end 2km from the gate.
River activities
There are several good swimming pools in the river suitable for swimmers of all ages. The Waiohine River is popular for rafting, tubing and kayaking. It is a Grade 2 river.
Climbing
Two abseiling platforms with secure anchor points are situated near the shelter at the entrance to the park. Wairarapa Outdoor Pursuits (WOP) is approved to use the platforms. Anyone else who wishes to abseil must seek approval from DOC Wairarapa Area Office.
Hunting
Red deer can be found in the upper reaches of the Waiohine River catchment.
Fishing
Brown and rainbow trout are more plentiful upstream from the gorge.
