Mountain biking

Lake Hawea.
Lake Hawea

Mountain biking has become increasingly popular on formed tracks. Cycling along the eastern shore of Lake Hawea is relatively easy.

Mountain biking access is allowed up to the Hunter Valley outlet at the head of Lake Hawea, on the eastern shore.

Hunting

Hunting is popular in the area, particularly during the March-April roar. Commercial hunting via helicopter under the Wild Animal Recovery License concession programme occurs year-round to control deer, thar and chamois. Recreational hunting by foot or boat is also common.

Fishing

The Dingle Burn and upper Hunter are a highly prized remote experience fisheries for anglers and very popular for guided fishing trips. There are good numbers of rainbow and brown trout and salmon. There is also good sport fishing in Lake Hawea itself.

Other activities

Other activities include swimming, picnicking, horse riding and back country heli-skiing.
