Remains of a miner's cottage, Welshtown, Bendigo
Bendigo's Historic and Scenic Reserves are outstanding examples of their kind. The historic reserve is probably the best and most accessible example of quartz reef mining in Otago. The nature reserve has the only bush walk on public land in Central Otago, the 10 kilometre Kānuka Track.
The 1085 hectares of Bendigo's adjoining historic and scenic reserves are popular visitor sites. They provide easy and interesting opportunities for day trips in the area.
Most of the Bendigo area is 'wander at will' but you can also walk the 10km Kānuka Loop Track and visit the Come in Time Battery.
There are no places to stay in Bendigo, but there is a range of accommodation available in the nearby town of Cromwell.
Be prepared for the changeable conditions and find out how to access areas in Bendigo.
At the Bendigo Historic Reserve you can view the Come in Time Battery which was built in 1880.
