Bannockburn is a historic town established in 1858, and offers a range of recreation and cultural opportunities.

You can explore Bannockburn township and see the historic Bannockburn Post Office, visit the local pub or one of the wineries. You can also explore the walking and mountain bike tracks that pass through the historical landscape.
From Bannockburn, there are many 4WD, or longer walks or mountain bike trips. You can visit the Australian Water Wheel in the Carrick Range, or explore Carrick Town, or 4WD through the Nevis Valley to Garston.

Bannockburn is 6km from Cromwell.
Getting there
Travel 6km south through Cromwell, and cross Lake Dunstan to get to Bannockburn.

Long Gully Bluff Track
This track offers interesting views of the back of the Remarkables and Hector mountains.
Getting there: From the Bannockburn Sluicings there is a marked tramping track to Long Gully Bluff Conservation Area.
Public access to Long Gully is restricted and open to the public on Sundays and Mondays. The Track is also closed for lambing from 1 October - 30 November. No dogs allowed. Moderate fitness is required.

Bannockburn provides access to the Nevis 
Historical relics on the Nevis RdValley (a public road) that offers a scenic 4WD or mountain bike experience.
The Nevis Rd travels from Bannockburn trhough to Garston. The road climbs up to Duffers Saddle (1200m) and travels along a tussock ridge. It drops down into Nevis Crossing and Schoolhouse Flat and out to Garston.
The 4WD track has 31 river crossings and has great scenery with views of Hector and Remarkable ranges and many historical relics.
Weather
Bannockburn gets incredibly hot in the summer. It is a good idea to take some water with you on any walks.
