Walk, ride and drive with care
Protect plants and dunes
- Drivers and riders must avoid any vegetated dune area or wetlands.
Protect the rare bird species and breeding sites
- Avoid disturbing feeding or nesting birds.
- Don't drive or ride through areas of drift wood around the high tide mark as birds may be nesting there.
- Dogs are not permitted above the high tide mark.

Consider others
- People visit wilderness areas for many reasons. Be considerate of other people who also have a right to enjoy the natural environment.
Enjoy your visit
- Take a last look before leaving an area. Will the next visitor know you have been there?
Protect marine mammals
- Marine Mammals such as seals and sea lions are protected and should not be approached or disturbed.
- Periodically whales become stranded on Pouto's beaches. It is important to get help quickly.
