Hawkes Lookout

Introduction

Hawkes Lookout can be visited when driving over the Takaka Hill, between Motueka and Takaka. A well formed path, and in places wooden boardwalk takes you out to a viewing platform. Here you are rewarded with scenic views of the Riwaka Valley and Tasman Bay. Hawkes Lookout is in Kahurangi National Park.

Features

From the lookout there are wonderful views into Kahurangi National Park, the Riwaka Valley, back to Motueka and Tasman Bay. On-site interpretation signs explain some of the main features.

Location

On Takaka Hill, between Motueka and Takaka in Kahurangi National Park.

Getting there

The Hawkes Lookout is just off State Highway 60 approximately two thirds up the Takaka Hill on the Motueka side. The walk to the lookout starts from the car park which is well signposted from the road. There is a toilet at the carpark.
