Plan & prepare

The island is only open to the public for specially-permitted commercial trips in summer or by arrangement with the Department of Conservation.

Boats must not land at the island without permission. Boats risk bringing pests that threaten the island’s rare and endangered species.

School and special interest groups can by arrangement with island staff make day visits to the island between February and September. Volunteer opportunities are available as part of programmed week-long volunteer work events. Volunteer opportunities are occasionally available for individuals by arrangement with island staff.

Maps

Parkmaps are detailed maps for those visiting and using New Zealand's national parks and other conservation land. They are available from DOC visitor centres.
