The Marlborough Sounds are renowned for their scenic blend of bush-clad hills and tranquil bays.

DOC looks after more than 50 reserves in the area, offering a range of recreation opportunities; swimming, boating, diving, fishing and kayaking on the water, walking, mountain biking and hunting on the land.

Accessible only by boat, Long Island - Kokomohua Marine Reserve offers visitors the chance to explore an environment typical of the Marlborough Sounds.

Maud Island in the Marlborough Sounds is a predator-free scientific reserve which is a sanctuary for rare and endemic native species. Visits are by permission only.
