Sika deer which can be hunted in the Kaweka Forest Park
The Kaweka Forest Park covers an area of 68,000 hectares. The dominant feature of the park is the Kaweka Range, which divides the park and runs approximately north and south. North and west of the main range is the lower rolling country which feeds the Mohaka and Ngaruroro Rivers. Sika deer and red deer can be hunted.
Extreme care is required especially on the tops and provision should be made for extended tramping times between huts. Caution is required at the ford on Makahu Road as water levels rise quickly due to snow melt and heavy rain.
