Made up of 10,800 hectares of native tawhai/beech and scattered podocarp forests, Mt Thomas Forest is at the foot of the Southern Alps/Kā Tiritiri o Te Moana, an hour by car from Christchurch.

Wooded Gully Picnic Area is the starting point for walks ranging from one-hour family walks to a full-day traverse of the area.

Location

Mt Thomas Forest covers 10,800 hectares between the Ashley and Okuku Rivers.
