Tracks from the Grey River picnic area provide visitors with a range of walks through remnant native tawai/beech and podocarp forest.



Other activities

Hunting

A permit is available from the Waimakariri Area office. You must have a firearms licence to be issued with a permit to hunt on public conservation land.

Definitely no hunting access via Rayonier NZ Ltd land.

Mountain biking

Mountain biking is permitted only on formed gravel roads in the area.

Do not pass through locked gates. The same access restrictions that apply to motor vehicles also apply to cyclists.

Dogs

Dogs (excluding hunting dogs by valid permit only) are permitted at the Grey River picnic area only, and must be on a leash.
