You can stay at Dickey's Flat campsite in the Karangahake Gorge. The campsite is free, but facilities are basic.
How to get there. Be careful around mine tunnels and shafts as they are dangerous and may be hidden by vegetation.
Just 60 km north-east of Hamilton, the Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway follows the old railway line between Paeroa and Waihi, with the remainder of the track following along the banks of the Ohinemuri River.
