Kaharoa Conservation Area

Kaharoa and the adjoining Onaia Ecological Area are renowned for the endangered kokako. You can walk the Kokako Track through forest to a secluded spot at Onaia Stream.

Mokaihaha Ecological Area

Mokaihaha Ecological Area, in Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park, is rich in Maori history and has high conservation and scientific values. Walkers on the Mokaihaha Track can listen to the calls of tui, kereru, bellbirds and fantail.

Mount Otanewainuku

You can walk through the virigin forest covering Mount Otanewainuku in the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park. These walks range from a 30-minute stroll to demanding and lengthy tramping.

Otawa Scenic Reserve

Otawa Scenic Reserve in the Papamoa Hills contains attractive lowland forest dominated by tawa and rewarewa. It is located in the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park.

Waiorongomai Valley

The Waiorongomai Valley in Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park contains the historic site of the Piako County Tramway, New Zealand oldest tramway. You can walk in the valley through regenerating native bush.
