Activities in Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park
Tracks and walks
A mixture of Maori trails and historic mining and logging tracks cross the Kaimai range north of SH29. The Mamaku plateau to the south has limited access. The park contains a number of huts and campsites which cater for challenging multi-day tramps.
Most tracks are suitable for fit, experienced and adequately equipped people. Parts of the Kaimai Heritage Trail in the north are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
Hunting
Recreational hunting is encouraged. Some of the huts contain meat lockers and are maintained in conjunction with the NZDA.
Find out about hunting in the Tauranga area.
What to hunt
Deer and pig hunting is popular in the central and southern parts of the park. There is a long-running effort to control goat numbers, if you see a goat please alert DOC in Tauranga.
Permits
Permits are required for all hunters and are free of charge.
