Tracks and walks

Various walks, including overnight tramps, cater for all fitness levels.

Henderson Tramline track.

Henderson Tramline Loop Track

This track leads you down to the base of a waterfall and large swimming hole. When the tramline ends the track follows haul lines to the summit.

Waitawheta Tramway

This track is relatively flat but requires several river crossings as it follows an old tramline through the spectacular Waitawheta Gorge.

Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park North-South Track

This is a multi-day tramp using rugged, unmarked routes. Trampers will need to camp in addition to staying in huts.

Rapurapu Track

This walking track is a beautiful cool, retreat during the summer months, with mature tawa-podocarp forest, a lovley stream with swimming holes and three impressive kauri trees that are growing at around their southern most limit.

Te Rereatukahia Loop Track

Grass clearings and an old fence are a legacy of days gone by when this section was highly modified by burning and farming.

Kauri trees feature on these walks. Retrace an old Maori route that was also used as a bridle track in the 1980s.

This area contains some lovely lowland podocarp-broadleaf forest with a variety of native species.

A highlight along this track is the extensive groves of nikau nestled under tall tawa, kohekohe and puketea forest.
