There are many day walks on the Kaimai Heritage Trail but visitors can stay overnight at backcountry huts or campsites often at little or no cost.


Waitawheta hut kitchen.

This is a serviced 26-bunk hut in the Tauranga area.

Dickey Flat.

This is a basic campsite in the Tauranga area.

Trampers gear outside Te Rereatukahia Hut.

Te Rereatukahia Hut

This is a standard 12-bunk hut in the Tauranga area.

 

Further information

Six month and twelve month hut passes are only available from DOC Tauranga Area office.

Individual hut tickets are also available to purchase from the Paeroa, Katikati, Te Aroha and Waihi Information Centres, and from Hunting & Fishing NZ, 65 Chapel St, Tauranga.
