Historic appreciation

The Kaimai Heritage Trail destinations all feature relics and remains from New Zealand's goldmining and logging heyday. Tracks bring you up close to ruined buildings and along old tramways, with historic interpretation boards to help you discover the past.

Mountain biking & cycling

The Hauraki Rail Trail passes through the heart of the Kaimai Heritage Trail along the Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway, the historic rail corridor linking Auckland to the Bay of Plenty. A side trip from Paeroa down to Te Aroha leads to the historic sites of gold mining in the Waiorongomai Valley. Please not that biking along other tracks is not permitted.
